Mike teaches classical and jazz piano at the Wausau Conservatory of Music. He also is part of the WCM choral leadership team and serves as collaborative pianist and theory teacher for the WCM Children’s Choirs. In addition, he provides coaching sessions on improv for any instrument or vocal part and coaches and teaches soloists and small ensembles of any type or instrument for the preparations for auditions, festivals, or contests. Lessons emphasize developing technique through scales, chords, and exercises. We implement a wide variety of techniques to help the student play better, develop confidence in performance, and improve musicianship. Several of Mike’s students have prize winners, studied music and gone on to music careers. Mike loves teaching all students how music study impacts our lives and can have a positive impact on their careers whether in music or any other field.
Mike can regularly be found leading workshops and seminars for junior high, high school, and adult musicians. He can be found leading workshops on improvisation, jazz and brass techniques. He is also in demand coaching ensembles, leading workshops on contemporary worship, and leading classical and jazz piano masterclasses.
Mike particularly enjoys helping students discover improvisation and learning to express themselves on their instrument.
Mike is active as an adjudicator and clinician.
