Mike takes a limited number of private students in the areas of classical or jazz piano and classical or jazz trumpet. In addition, he provides coaching sessions on improv for any instrument or vocal part and coaches and teaches soloists and small ensemble of any type or instrument for the preparations for auditions, festivals, or contests. Lessons emphasize developing technique through scales, chords, and exercises. We implement a wide variety of techniques to help the student play better, develop confidence in performance, and improve musicianship.
Mike can regularly be found leading workshops and seminars for junior high, high school, and adult musicians. He can be found leading workshops on improvisation, coaching ensembles, leading workshops on contemporary worship, and leading classical and jazz piano masterclasses.
Mike particularly enjoys helping students discover improvisation and learning to express themselves on their instrument.
Mike is active as an adjudicator and clinician for festivals through the Wisconsin School Music Association.
Workshops can be designed for your special need, whether this is for an established ensemble like a high school or church band or for a teaching studio or group of individuals such as a class on improv or jazz piano.
